Actor

Last night was the first public showing of Investigation, a film that I star in, and I took the opportunity to give me the impetus I needed to update my showreel. So for your viewing pleasure, here is my new showreel. Be warned, the language in it is explicit from the offset so if you are sensitive to such things watch it with the sound down!

We have finally opened our show to Dubai audiences and it was amazing. The two shows today were largely school’s parties, which fits Romeo and Juliet very well. Juliet is the same age as the majority of the audience so I think that they can relate to a lot of the things that she goes through. The disagreements and subsequent blow-ups with her parents, her bossiness, her sweetness, flirtations and awakening desires.   The audiences lifted my performance, my version of Juliet directs a lot of her monologues directly to the audience and the relationship with them is very important. […]

Dubai Diary 5 – opening night!

Good day everyone, I thought that it was about time that I introduce you to my YouTube channel, Spitting Diamonds, I like being on camera, I and I like to talk about myself without interruption so this is a great medium for me :p (as you can imagine a blog about narcissism is in the pipeline). If you are also a YouTuber leave your channel name in the comments and I will check it out. Following on from yesterday’s blog I thought that I would post a video that lets you into my life a little more and helps you […]

50 things about me (video)

I’m performing this weekend and it makes me so happy. There are very few times in life when the real essence of me escapes the everyday shell that I wear, but when I am on stage (or in front of a camera) my life-force explodes showering over the unsuspecting audience. What I am saying is that I feel most like me and most truthful when I am pretending to be another person – weird, right?!? Yesterday was a blissful day for me, exhausting, but blissful, rehearsing two different shows and performing Romeo and Juliet, as well as writing a blog, doing a […]

Hey diddly dee – an actor’s life for me

I have been rehearsing Romeo and Juliet for months now for a tour in Dubai in February. However in order to perform in Dubai you have to get official government approval, we have been waiting on tenterhooks for ages, knowing that the whole thing will be derailed if the government decide that we are not allowed to do the show. But today we finally got approval for the shows which will be on at the Madinat Theatre from the 11th – 14th February. Yay!!   I am playing Juliet so, in celebration, I am going to share my top ten Juliet […]

Top ten lines from Romeo and Juliet

One cold, blustery evening in the lead up to Christmas, in the beautiful Georgian city of Bath, a number of women, including myself, gathered in an underground bar, surrounded by glitter, tea lights and provocative underwear. Amongst many topics we discussed female empowerment, body image, artistic expression and why women take their clothes off for a living. Over cocktails we talked of plans to bring our conversation to the wider world and began to bond as we understood a bit more about ourselves, about each other and about the world we live in. However, men of the world need […]

Stripped back and ready for Christmas

Please meet Anita. Previously a fifteen year old prostitute, she is now locked in an old fashioned repressive mental hospital and all her mental health symptoms have come to light. She is a character I played in the new show “wEight Off My Shoulders”, directed by Gabriele Paoli and produced by the Italian Cultural Centre of Bristol. I think that it represented a society that would rather define individuals as suffering from mental health conditions than focusing on the societal pressures that make those symptoms come to light. I loved working with some very talented, female (and 1 male) actors I […]

Anita – crazy lady

I am super busy at the moment, with new projects starting, a show next week and I am currently reviewing the Bath Fringe Festival for Theatre Bath on my YouTube channel, Spitting Diamonds so today’s blog is short. Here is one of my reviews, go to my channel if you want to see more. My blogs have been quite heavy recently so I thought that I would do a light one. These are 5 women who give me a slightly warm feeling of empowerment, women who give me just a little sprinkling of magic dust to keep me going through […]

This is the final part in the 3 part blog series looking into sustainable fashion. Part 1 looked at the ethics of the garment industry’s labour market, the second part is about the environmental sustainability of the fashion industry. In this blog I will look at how I can make choices that are less wasteful and conclude the short series. I love clothes and sometimes I will walk into a shop and think I want everything. If I am having a bad day I think that buying something will make me feel better, but normally I stop myself and say […]

Material People: Is is ok to like pretty things? Part ...

2
I recently made a YouTube video inspired by cleaning out my wardrobe. I love the video, I feel fun, upbeat and accessible. The dresses are pretty and they make me feel pretty. I feel like you can see me in the video. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I thought I would continue to make some fun clothing inspired videos, which are celebratory. In the second one I have played with editing more and infused more of my personality so I hope you have fun watching it: Now, I don’t want to put a dampener on things, but, […]

Is it ok to like pretty things? Part 1

Age is something that society seems extremely obsessed with, I don’t personally understand it, other than a form of judging people based on what they look like. In the acting industry it makes a lot of sense, we have to portray a character that is believable to the audience, which includes matching our physical appearance to the circumstances of the character. I recently got a new set of headshots done by a wonderful headshot photographer called Anna Hull. She was able to get varied shots, and she only used natural light, which I think adds to the authentic nature of […]

What’s my age again?
